Standards matter because death investigation is one of the few public services that touches every part of a community at once: grieving families, public safety, public health, and the justice system. When standards are clear and consistent, families receive professional care and communication, investigations are documented in a way that is credible and defensible, and agencies can coordinate smoothly without confusion about roles, expectations, or process.

In East Idaho, strengthening standards is not about criticism or bureaucracy. It is about ensuring that professionalism does not stop at the county lines. Standards create a common baseline for training, certification, documentation, and access to the right resources. They protect investigators, support partner agencies, and help the public trust that every case is handled with dignity and competence.

  • Collaborating agencies play a critical role, each in their own field of expertise and it is important recognize where and how we impact each other.

  • Community Members need to be informed, stand up when something isn't right and guide their representatives at all levels of government.

  • Elected Leaders need to recognize smart policies and principles towards cost efficient and service minded results.

Each section below explains what standards mean in practical terms, why they matter for your responsibilities, and specific ways you can support meaningful change.
