I want to be candid with the people I serve, because transparency matters in this work. Not everything is well within Idaho’s coroner system, and that is not speculation, it is a reality that has been documented for decades. Idaho operates under a patchwork system of independently elected coroners with little oversight, inconsistent training, and limited resources, which means the quality of a death investigation can vary depending on where someone dies. In some cases, this has led to missed opportunities, unanswered questions for families, and investigations that do not meet national standards. We also face challenges with funding, access to forensic pathology, and the lack of a centralized medical examiner system, all of which directly impact our ability to serve our communities effectively.

Because of this, I have made it a priority not just to improve the system in Bonneville County, but to be actively involved in fixing it at a regional and statewide level. Through my work with the Eastern Idaho Coroner Coalition and other boards and legislative committees, I am helping push for meaningful changes, including standardized training, improved access to autopsies, regional forensic resources, and sustainable funding models. This is not a quick fix, but it is necessary work. I believe strongly that every family in Idaho deserves the same level of professionalism, accuracy, and care, regardless of where a death occurs, and I am committed to continuing that effort until we get there.

Standards matter in medicolegal death investigation because consistency, training, and accountability are what ensure every family receives clear answers and every investigation is handled with professionalism and care. I have built my work around strengthening those standards through training, collaboration, and system improvements both in Bonneville County and across eastern Idaho.

Support for my reelection means that this focused and deliberate work can continue. It allows me to keep advancing practical solutions, strengthening partnerships, and building a more consistent and reliable coroner system that serves our communities with dignity and professionalism.
